Last Friday evening the Knights of Columbus held once again – after a two-year Covid hiatus – its annual “Honor Our Veterans Night” at its Knights of Columbus Center in Stamford. Over 200 attended the dinner with nine veterans on the Honoree List including Tony Marzullo from the Cos Cob VFW Post 10112, and two other members of the Byram Veteran Association.

With much pomp and circumstance, Presentation of Colors, military regalia of swords and medals, each of the nine were called up to the Table of Honor to be introduced and then presented with their commemorative brass plaque bearing the Knights of Columbus shield. Their presenters included Brigadier General Jerry Lukowski, the recently retired Chief of Staff to the Joint Staff for the Connecticut Army National Guard.

Called to the Table of Honor came honoree Private First Class Anthony “Tony” M. Marzullo of the U.S. Army who had served during the Korean War. He was introduced as having served duty in the 1666 Medical Company of the 12th Infantry, Third Army Division in Germany from 1952 to 1953. “Having been released at Camp Fillman, New Jersey, he was transferred to the Army Reserve [for a following eight years of inactive duty]. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Occupation Medal of Germany and other numerous declarations.”

Marzullo returned with his plaque to his table joined by eight of his fellow Cos Cob Post veterans, including Greenwich Chief of Police Jim Heavey who had served in Desert Storm in the Gulf War. Marzullo, who will turn 94 in May, was surrounded by family and friends filling two tables. He had shared, “This is one of the most fabulous nights – I have received one of my best awards as a veteran.”

A few tables away a dozen members of the Byram Veteran Association were also celebrating their two honorees: Specialist 4 Alexander T. Crawford, U.S. Army and Staff Sergeant Egbert Bell of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
