Greenwich Library’s Signature Series welcomes bestselling author and journalist Fareed Zakaria to the Library’s Berkley Theater on Thursday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m. for a discussion about current geopolitical topics and trends. This event will take place both in-person and via livestream.
Zakaria will be joined in conversation by Gideon Rose, the former editor of Foreign Affairs magazine. Zakaria and Rose are both members of the Council on Foreign Relations, the foreign policy think tank; Zakaria also serves on its board.
Fareed Zakaria hosts Fareed Zakaria GPS, a weekly international and domestic affairs program, for CNN Worldwide and is a columnist for The Washington Post, a contributing editor for the Atlantic, and an author. Zakaria has regularly hosted prime-time specials for CNN Worldwide and frequently contributes his analysis of world events and public affairs to CNN.com, the daily digital newsletter Fareed’s Global Briefing, and other programming across CNN’s multiple platforms.
Prior to his tenure at CNN Worldwide, Zakaria was editor of Newsweek International, managing editor of Foreign Affairs, a columnist for Time, an analyst for ABC News, and the host of Foreign Exchange with Fareed Zakaria on PBS. He is the author of three best-selling books: In Defense of a Liberal Education, a commentary on the importance of a well-rounded education; The Post-American World, a discussion of the rise of non-Western powers; and The Future of Freedom, examines how democracy has changed our politics, economies, and social relations.
In 2017, Zakaria was awarded the American Academy of Diplomacy’s Arthur Ross Media Award. He was named a “Top 10 Global Thinker of the Last 10 Years” by Foreign Policy magazine in 2019, and Esquire has called him “the most influential foreign policy adviser of his generation.” He serves on the board of New America. Zakaria earned a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a doctorate from Harvard University and has received numerous honorary degrees. He is based in New York, NY.
Gideon Rose is the Mary and David Boies distinguished fellow in U.S. foreign policy at the Council on Foreign Relations. Before that, he spent 21 years at Foreign Affairs, the magazine published by the Council. Rose has also served as associate director for Near East and South Asian affairs on the staff of the National Security Council, as deputy director of National Security Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, and he has taught American foreign policy at Princeton and Columbia. He is the author of How Wars End: Why We Always Fight the Last Battle.
