The Historical Society will dazzle for the holidays with a series of events for the entire family to enjoy, beginning December 1 through December 10.
“We’ve designed a full roster of specially curated events that will appeal to all age groups,” says Historical Society’s Manager of Marketing and Communications Dianne Niklaus. “A winter wonderland awaits visitors to our campus and to Christ Church where our enormously popular Winter Market takes place. Proceeds from all the activities are crucial for funding our extensive programs in education, arts and historic preservation.”
Festival of Tabletop Trees Offers Distinctively Decorated Trees to Light Up /Brighten Homes The Historical Society’s Cos Cob lobby will be transformed into an enchanted forest as the fourth annual Festival of Tabletop Trees celebrates the talents of local designers, merchants, non-profits and other Greenwich organizations who donate their talents to decorate the trees and make our homes festive sanctuaries for the holidays. First Bank of Greenwich, Estate Treasures, Abigail Fox Designs, Sacred Heart Academy, Something Special Flowers and all garden clubs in Greenwich are among the participating vendors who are supporting this cherished tradition. The festival is open to the public at no cost. Trees will be on display for bidding by silent on-site auction December 7 – 10 at the Historical Society campus, 47 Strickland Rd., Cos Cob.
The Museum Store is open for shopping and refreshments while browsing trees. Manager Barbara Johann has distinctive gifts that will appeal to all ages, including a collection of ‘All Things Greenwich’. The store is open Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays, noon – 4 pm. Complimentary gift wrapping is offered; Historical Society members receive a 10% discount.

Enchantment for Families and Children of all Ages
• Holiday Puppet Show: The Steadfast Tin Soldier Acclaimed Puppeteer Robert Rogers presents a play based on a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale of an old-fashioned tin soldier who lives among a bunch of other toys, and whose job it is to keep everyone safe. When a disgruntled Jack-in-the-Box who stirs up trouble, the Steadfast Tin Soldier must decide what to do in this festive holiday tale. Rogers founded the American Puppetry Project, a nonprofit dedicated to puppet making and dramatic arts in classrooms.

• Holiday Family Festival
Bring the entire family for photos with Santa and a visit to a gorgeously decorated dollhouse displayed in the Historic Barn and partake in gingerbread decorating and crafts in Santa’s workshop. Winter beverages and classic grilled cheese and tomato soup treats will be served from the Crispy Melty Cheese truck while performances by the Connecticut Yuletide Carolers warm hearts. Professional ice sculpture Bill Bywater will create a wintry marvel from giant blocks of ice, and to round out the evening of holiday fun, s’mores and hot cocoa will be served outside by a roaring fire.

• Bush Holley House Tours
On this special holiday tour of the Bush-Holley House, visitors will enjoy a festive walk through early twentieth century Christmas and holiday traditions enjoyed by adults and children of the Holley family in the era of the Cos Cob Art Colony, and learn about early American wintertime and holiday celebrations as observed in the era of the New Nation, among the Bush family and their Greenwich neighbors.
Tours last approximately 45 minutes and are appropriate for adults and families with children ages 5 and older. Masks are required for staff and visitors on Bush-Holley House tours.
