NAMI Speaker Series to discuss EMDR Therapy

NAMI Southwest CT presents “Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy 101: The How, the Why and the What”

How much do you know about Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy? NAMI Southwest CT (the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness) has invited master EMDR therapist and trainer, Dr. Stephen Dansiger, to discuss what EMDR therapy is, how it is used, and who it can help.

The speaker event will be held on Thursday, November 17, from 7:00 – 8:30 pm via Zoom. The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required in advance at www.namisouthwestct.org.

What is EMDR therapy? It is an evidence-based, structured psychotherapy that effectively targets past experiences, current triggers, and future potential challenges.

EMDR therapy has a proven track record for people recovering from trauma and PTSD symptoms, but successful outcomes are well-documented for treatment of other psychiatric disorders as well, such as:

· Phobias, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, performance anxiety, and grief

· Depression, anxiety & other mental health symptoms in children and adolescents

· Eating disorders / Dissociative disorders / Addictions

· Somatic problems/somatoform disorders, including migraines, chronic pain, phantom limb pain, chronic eczema, and gastrointestinal problems

Dr. Stephen Dansiger, PsyD, LMFT is an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association-Approved Consultant and Certified Therapist. Dr. Dansiger has been a master EMDR therapist and trainer for 15 years. He is the founder and CEO of StartAgain Associates, an organization dedicated to providing trauma-focused care for treatment centers, clinicians, and coaches. Dr. Dansiger has authored and co-authored several books, including EMDR Therapy and Mindfulness for Trauma-Focused Care and Healing Addiction with EMDR Therapy: A Trauma-Focused Guide.
