Libby Richardson joins the American Red Cross

Libby Richardson

Libby Richardson rejoined the American Red Cross on July 5 as the Director of Special Events for the Greater New York region. Libby will oversee GNY’s premier regional special events program.

Libby has two decades of experience in fundraising, experiential design and project management.  She was the senior director of special events for the Connecticut and Rhode Island region of the American Red Cross from 2015 to 2021.  During those years, she implemented new events, transitioned time-honored events to new formats, and ventured into the world of virtual and hybrid events, resulting in more than $2.6 million raised.  She also assisted the Massachusetts, Eastern New York and Greater Pennsylvania regions with their fundraising events during times of staff transitions.  She has deployed to national and local disasters including hurricanes Michael and Matthew and the Oregon Wildfires, as well as a B-17 plane crash in Connecticut.  When not working, you will find Libby hot air ballooning, spending time at her off-grid cabin in Maine, volunteering at friends’ events, and spending time with her family.

Prior to the Red Cross, Libby had an eight-year career with United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut where she planned and executed world-class events for up to 1,200 people in the Greater Hartford area. She has additional experience managing volunteer committees, developing marketing and sponsorship plans, and building relationships in the community.
