Obituary: Lois Costantino

Lois Costantino

Mrs. Lois Josephine (Mazzeo) Costantino, 93, a devout Catholic and resident of Cos Cob, CT for more than 60 years, passed away peacefully at home on June 14, 2022 with family at her side. She was a gentle, loving and self-sacrificing woman who was loved by everyone, because she loved everyone, in imitation of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, who loved her (and us) first.

Lois was born on April 28, 1929 to Salvatore and Lillian (Conti) Mazzeo, a chauffeur and a seamstress, who raised and educated her, her sisters Charlotte, Marie (Fitzsimmons) and Sally (Wynne), and her brother Salvatore in Darien, CT through the Depression and War years. She excelled in art, music and sports, and was particularly fond of diving, figure skating and singing. She graduated from Darien High School in 1947 and then worked for Pitney Bowes for more than 10 years. She married Joseph D. Costantino, an automobile salesman, on May 10, 1958 at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Darien, CT and moved to Cos Cob, CT where they raised their three sons. After fulfilling with great love and devotion her vocation as a wife and mother, including duties related to scouting, football, baseball, cross country, band, choir and jazz ensemble, and helping to launch the original Cos Cob Library in the Mill Pond Shopping Center, she directed her energies to managing the St. Catherine of Siena Bookstore which became her second home from which to bring the Gospel to many others, one soul at a time. Thereafter, she continued from home a life of prayer and love of others in her many letters and notes to family and friends.

Lois is survived by her sons, Joseph, Salvatore and Michael, and their families; her sisters-in-law, Paula Belmont, Lina Costantino Martino and Elizabeth (McMurray) Mazzeo; a brother-in-law, Bill Kocis, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A Vigil for the Deceased (Wake) will be held on Friday, July 1 from 4-8 p.m. at Castiglione Funeral Home in Greenwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 2 at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Riverside, followed by a Rite of Committal at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greenwich.

Please pray for the repose of her soul.
