Obituary: Brian McCullough

November 22, 1961 – June 19, 2022

Brian was born in Atlanta, GA, raised in Scarsdale, NY and lived in Old Greenwich, CT, Hong Kong, Macau and Pinehurst, NC. A natural networker who traveled widely for business and leisure, Brian accumulated a wealth of friendships from both. He will be remembered for his steadfast advice and generosity, irrespective of distance, as well as his convivial character.

After graduating from Fordham Preparatory School, Brian earned a B.S. in Economics from SUNY Albany and an M.B.A. from Pace University. He then embarked on what was to be a formidable career in global finance: specializing in complex credit and capital structuring advice as well as financial institutions. After starting in New York, Standard & Poors sent him to open their office in Hong Kong. A 6-month stint became over 25-years in Asia. Brian thrived in Hong Kong, navigating the dynamic East-meets-West environment with his unique brand of intellect, intuition and sheer resolve; he left a lasting impact on his colleagues and their institutions. At Morgan Stanley he rose to Managing Director then held senior responsibilities at PacBridge Capital Partners, Citigroup, Dagong Global Credit and Tiro Capital.

Brian balanced a demanding career with family, raising his sons, Daniel and Colin, and imparting a focus on academic accomplishment, sound judgement and moral character. He knew the requisite perseverance and discipline to achieve success, and ensured that neither these nor the uniqueness of an international upbringing was lost on his sons. Nowhere was his fatherly enthusiasm more on display than the golf course, often the medium for advice and basis for travel. As his sons graduated and began professional careers of their own, Brian remained devoted and involved; his sons were his favorite topic of conversation and his pride shone through as he regaled friends and fellow members of his golf and social clubs.

Brian was an extraordinary father, son, husband and brother. He was predeceased by his father and mother, John and Patricia; his wife, Susan and is survived by his sons, Daniel and Colin, and brothers, Timothy and Robert.

Services will be held on Wednesday, June 29 at 10am at St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church, 350 Sound Beach Ave., Old Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital.
