The Chambers Players of the Greenwich Symphony open their 50th anniversary season with a pair of concerts titled “Romantic Allusions” on Sunday, October 10, 4pm at Round Hill Community Church, 395 Round Hill Rd, Greenwich, and Monday, October 10, 7:30pm at Greenwich Arts Council, 299 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich. The concerts feature guest artist Zohar Schondorf on horn, and Heather Braun on violin.

Hornist Zohar Schondorf will be featured in Alexander Glazunov’s Reverie, Op. 24 for Horn and Piano, and Eleanor Alberga’s evocative dreamscape, Shining Gate of Morpheus for horn and quartet. Heather Braun will join in the program for Hugo Wolf’s Italian Serenade, and Robert Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 44.

Christine Boies, president of the Board of Directors, said, “The creative talents of our gifted musicians, the enthusiasm and loyal support of our audiences and this community give us ample reason to celebrate 50 years and to continue our commitment to excellence as we pursue the joy of music together, even in these challenging times.”

All Chamber Players musicians and volunteers are fully vaccinated. For everyone’s protection, audience members are required to wear masks and are asked to observe social distance.

Subscriptions for the 50th Season are $90 for adults, $15 for students. Single concert tickets are $30 for adults, $5 for students. Subscriptions and single tickets can be purchased via the Chamber Players of the Greenwich Symphony website, www.chamberplayersofthegso.com, by phone 203-637-4725, or at the door.

50th Anniversary Season!

October 10-11, 2021 “Romantic Allusions”

The Chamber Players welcome guest artist Zohar Schondorf to herald our 50th season with Glazunov’s rhapsodic Rêverie and Eleanor Alberga’s evocative dreamscape, Shining Gate of Morpheus for horn and quartet. Guest violinist Heather Braun will join us in this program that includes two favorites, the Italian Serenade by Hugo Wolf and Schumann’s exuberant Opus 44 piano quintet.

November 14-15, 2021 “Sympathetic Resonance”

Intimate musical portraits by William Grant Still and Dvorák’s Hausmusik masterpiece, the Opus 74 Terzetto set the tone for this program highlighting the strings. Beethoven’s rarely performed string quintet is the finale. Violinist Michael Roth and violist Orlando Wells will be our guests.

March 6-7, 2022 “Blow, Ye Winds”

Jean Françaix’s brilliant first quintet for winds and Louise Farrenc’s Sextet anchor this program spanning the spectrum of sonorities for winds and piano, from lyric elegance to vibrant extroversion. Also featured are works by Sofia Gubaidulina and American hornist Jeff Scott.

April 24, 2022 “A Tale Through Time”

David Baker’s jazzy take on Stravinsky’s classic musical fable opens this concert. Narrator Edward Pleasant and dancer Olga Suarez-Paz will then join the musicians to present the Tale itself in a semi-staged performance at Greenwich’s Christ Church.
