Mask Mandate to Be Relaxed

At Greenwich Hospital as of Wednesday morning, one COVID-19 patient was being treated, according to the vice president of communications at the hospital. The First Selectman is anticipating making an announcement that the town wide mask mandate will be lifted.

Annual Paper Shredding Day
This years’ 10th annual paper shredding day will be held at the Island Beach parking lot on Saturday, September 25 from 9:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. The cost to shred is $3 per box, with a five box max per car. The event is open to residents only, and participants are asked to bring cash.

St. Paul Lutheran Church Flood
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Byram experienced major flood damage following Hurricane Ida, both on the first floor, and the parsonage. Mechanicals on the first floor were damaged and are in need of replacement, including the furnace and kitchen. The congregation asks for prayers as well as for donations toward repair costs, which are estimated to be over $100,000. Donations can be sent to St. Paul Lutheran Church at 286 Delavan Avenue, Greenwich, CT 06830.

Greenwich Policeman’s Ball
The Greenwich Police Department will be celebrating its 125th anniversary with their Policeman’s Ball on Saturday, October 16 at the Riverside Yacht Club. The event will include an Honor Guard Procession, bagpipes, awards, silent and live auctions, and live music. Christ Church to Hold Special Service
Christ Church will be holding a special worship service for the 125th anniversary of the Greenwich Police Department. The entire community is invited to honor First Responders and the GPD at the service, with a continental breakfast and Color Guard procession, followed by a worship service at Christ Church Greenwich on September 26. The continental breakfast and coffee will take place in the Parish Hall at 9:15 a.m., followed by the Color Guard and service at 9:45 a.m. and 10 a.m. respectively. Following the service, there will be a special forum and coffee with Police Captain James Heavey.

Greenwich Country Club Bomb Threat
This past Saturday, Greenwich Police responded to a report of an anonymous bomb threat at a Greenwich Country Club during a private event. The building was evacuated, and police were on scene within minutes, and the clubhouse was swept and deemed safe by the bomb squad.

Frontage Rd, Delavan Ave, Ritch Ave Improvement Project
This Tuesday, the Frontage Road, Delavan Avenue, and Ritch Avenue Improvement Project began. The Town of Greenwich hopes that this project will help to make the area more pedestrian safe, with the addition of a multi-use trail connecting Frontage Road to Byram Park. The current four foot wide sidewalks will be expanded to five feet, with portions of the three street sidewalks being widened to eight feet, and there will be improved pedestrian and traffic signals. One lane traffic will begin around the area during the third week of October, with construction projected to end in January 2022. The entire project is slated for completion by the Spring of 2022.

Launch of Greenwich Waste Wizard
The Greenwich Recycling Advisory Board, in partnership with the Town of Greenwich and Waste Free Greenwich, have announced the launch of Greenwich Waste Wizard, an online search engine that guides users on recycling responsibly, and instructs where various materials can be disposed of correctly. Greenwich Waste Wizard will be tailored for the Greenwich community, with local drop-off locations, special instructions, and events in town, such as Paper Shredding Day. Treasured Tree Celebration
The Greenwich Tree Conservancy has announced a Treasured Tree Celebration scheduled for October 15. The event will be held at Sam Bridge Nursery on Friday, October 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event will be a festive fund-raising celebration with refreshments, food, and fall decor, and proceeds will go towards the Treasured Trees program, which seeks to raise awareness of trees on private lands that are special to homeowners. OGRCC Model Sailboat Regatta
The Old Greenwich Riverside Community Center will be hosting its popular Model Sailboat Regatta on Sunday, October 17 at Binney Park. The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and there will be various boat race categories spread out throughout the day. The money raised through the event will go towards the OGRCC Scholarship Program to get community children involved in programs and camps. To buy a ticket, visit www.myogrcc.org/.

Community Bike Fest
Pedal Greenwich will be hosting a community bike fest on Saturday, September 25, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Living Hope Community Church. The bike fest will feature bike demonstrations, GEMS and GPD will be attending with their bike patrols, and there will be a showcase of bikes and available test rides from various Greenwich bicycle shops.

Fire Extinguisher Distribution
Over this past weekend, Greenwich Communities gave out free fire extinguishers at Adams Garden. Deputy Fire Marshal Bob Roth was in attendance, both facilitating distribution of the extinguishers and demonstrating their proper use. Over half of the residents of Adams Garden attended the event to collect their fire extinguishers.

New Julian Curtiss Assistant Principal Appointed
Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones has appointed Matthew Hartigan as the new assistant principal at Julian Curtiss Elementary School, effective immediately. Hartigan most recently held the position of special education program administrator at Greenwich High School and comes to Julian Curtiss to assist in the development and achievement of school goals and objectives.

GCDS Lacrosse Coach Honored
Andrew Copelan, the head coach for the Greenwich Country Day School boys’ varsity lacrosse teams, has been named the PLL 2021 Coach of the Year.

Brunswick Plans New Wellness Center
A new proposal for a wellness center and second floor addition to the Brunswick Upper School campus has come before the Planning and Zoning Commission. The wellness center would focus on mental and physical wellness such as nutrition, counseling, and sex education, and would centralize programs to one space.

BGCG Abuse Lawsuits Settled
The Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich has settled three lawsuits that were brought forward by six men who testified to being sexually abused as children by Andrew Atkinson at the club in the mid-1970s and early 1980s. The settlement ended four years of litigation.

BET Budget Committee: 2022-2023 Budget
The Board of Estimation and Taxation Budget Committee gave insight into what the fiscal 2022-2023 budget will look like. According to the projections, the 2022-2023 budget would likely increase from this year’s spending plan of $448.5 million to $463 million. The mill rate, used to calculate property taxes, would increase by .03%.

Tennis Reservations
Although the tennis office has closed for the season, tennis court reservations will continue through November 30. To reserve a court, visit www.greenwichct.gov/tennis.
Court reservations may be made 24 hours in advance, and receipts should be brought to the court.

Puttin’ on the Dog is Back!
Puttin’ On the Dog, the annual festival and pet adoption event is set to return to Greenwich this weekend on Sunday, September 26 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park. The event will include competitions, K-9 demonstrations, exhibitions, and adoption opportunities.

Tropical Storm Ida Update and CNG Charges
First Selectman Camillo continues to be in contact with Governor Lamont and Congressman Himes to obtain a federal disaster declaration in order to provide relief to residents impacted by Tropical Storm Ida. Residents should also note that CT Natural Gas has reported that some residents may have been charged a $130 service fee for turning on gas lines following repairs. These charges were made in error, and if you were charged, please call CNG at 203-869-6900 in order to get money credited back to your account.

Absentee Ballots for Local Elections
Absentee Ballots for the November 2 local elections will be available beginning October 1. Applications can be found on the Town of Greenwich Website, and can be returned to the Town Clerk’s office, the address of which is on the application. Ballot boxes will be available for both applications and ballots from September 15 through November 2 at 8:00 p.m. They are located at Town Hall and at the Public Safety Complex at 11 Bruce Place.

Sculpture Donated to Cos Cob Library
Local residents Gerald and Marianne Porricelli have donated a bronze sculpture, “Leapfrog Children” to the Cos Cob Library. First Selectman Camillo dedicated the sculpture this past Saturday at Cos Cob Library’s open house.remain vigilant, and when appropriate, wear a mask, social distance, get vaccinated, and wash your hands,” Marnane said.

Bernard Tedesco
Bernard J. Tedesco, 83, a lifelong resident of Port Chester, NY and Greenwich, CT died Sept. 16 surrounded by his loving family.

Elizabeth Reilly
At the age of 99, Elizabeth “Betty” Reilly passed away on Sept. 15.

Michael Pratt
Michael Christopher Pratt passed into eternal life on Sept. 15, after a long cancer battle.

Dora Williams
Dora Puglia Williams, 63, a resident of Greenwich, passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 13, after a long and fiercely fought battle with cancer.

Adelle Hinds
Adelle L. Hinds passed away Friday, Sept. 12 in Virginia at age 81.

Joseph Rogers
Joseph “Jo” Edward Lloyd Rogers (76) passed away Sept. 12 at his home in Greenwich surrounded by family.

Elizabeth Sutherland
Elizabeth Ann Sutherland of Greenwich passed away suddenly at home at the age of 38 on Sunday, Sept. 12.

Dr. Samit Malhotra
Dr. Samit Malhotra, father, husband, son, brother, and friend, passed away Saturday, Sept. 11 in his home.

Robert West
Robert R. West, 85, passed away peacefully on Sept. 10.

Janet Casale
Janet Fontanarosa (Colasurdo) Casale passed away on Sept. 9.

Christine Burlingame
On Thursday, the 9th of September, Christine Elaine Burlingame went home, to be the Lord.
