Obituary: James Yerks, III

James L. Yerks, III, 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend of many passed away on June 10, 2021 at Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach, FL.
Jim was born in Greenwich Hospital on Nov. 18, 1938 to the late Eleanor (Hone) and James L. Yerks, Jr. Jim is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Bolanz), his son, James L. Yerks, IV, his daughter Colleen Hayes, (Phil), three grandchildren, Samantha Yerks, Philip Hayes, Jr. and Kevin Hayes. He also leaves behind his brother Raymond, stepbrother Eddie Baird, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jim lived most of his life in Greenwich and Stamford but was currently a resident of Delray Beach, FL. In his youth, he served in the U.S. Navy and then was in the automotive repair business. He also enjoyed boating on the Long Island Sound starting at a young age and was an avid power boater until age 80. The times spent traveling and rafting up with friends in Greenwich Cove and many areas up and down the Sound were special to him.

He was a past member of Mianus River Boat and Yacht Club and Polaris Yacht Club. He also enjoyed woodworking, golf and skiing. Jim’s big personality, generosity, and strength will be missed by his family and the many friends he had.
