On Thursday, May 27, 2021, Cathleen “Cay” Fraser Vetromile passed away at the age of 101 years old, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was a longtime resident of Greenwich and Southbury, CT. She was an elegant woman with a wonderful smile and joyful laugh. Her life will be forever cherished in the lives of her children: her son, Glen M. Vetromile of Bronxville, NY and his children, Grace Vetromile and John Vetromile of Brooklyn, NY; and her son and daughter-in-law, James and Deborah Vetromile of Greenwich, CT, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Cathleen grew up in Scarsdale, NY as the eldest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William G. Fraser. She graduated from Saint Mary’s School in Peekskill and Gaines Business School in New York City. She became an analyst at the Research Institute of America and later a researcher in the metals division of Anaconda- Ericsson. She was married to Alfred G. Vetromile in 1948 and resided in Greenwich, CT. They divorced in 1976. During her lifetime, Cay was involved in numerous clubs, not-for-profits, and political activities. One of her more noteworthy undertakings was acting as advance person for Barry Goldwater’s campaign activities in Connecticut during his run for the US presidency in 1964. She also loved Japanese flower arranging and was active in the Riverside Garden Club and Hortulus Harvest and won many awards for her designs. She was also a lifelong watercolorist and loved painting scenes of nature and exhibited her work in many local shows. She enjoyed simplicity in all things and, as an example, frowned upon cars with radios because she felt driving should be a quiet experience without a noisy racket in the background!

Tributes to Cathleen would be most appreciated through donations to the Alzheimer’s Association of New York.
