Today, the YMCA of Greenwich announced that it is launching LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA, a 12-week program for cancer survivors. The program is developed and established in partnership with the LIVESTRONG Foundation to assist those who are living with, through, or beyond cancer to strengthen their spirit, mind, and body.

LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is a small group, evidence-based program that creates a welcoming community in which cancer survivors can improve their strength and physical fitness, diminish the severity of the side effects of therapy, develop supportive relationships, and improve their quality of life. Survivors participate in free or low-cost customized exercise regimens designed for their individual needs from certified fitness instructors. The instructors are trained in cancer survivorship, post-rehabilitation exercise, and supportive cancer care.

“Our mission has always been to bring together and strengthen the community through programs and services that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all,” said Patrice Francois, Interim Chief Executive Officer, YMCA of Greenwich. “LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA allows us to achieve this with the power of science behind us. Studies show that for cancer patients, regular exercise has proven to minimize the debilitating side effects of the condition itself as well as those caused by medications, treatment, and surgeries.”

Even though the LIVESTRONG Foundation has been the YMCA’s partner in developing and delivering LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA since 2008, this is the first time the program will be offered in Greenwich, CT.
