Crews were still working on Anderson Road in Greenwich on Monday afternoon to repair a water main break that partially collapsed the roadway and left about 25 residents without water service. The Greenwich Fire Department was also still working to remove a fire truck that got stuck in the collapsed asphalt.

According to Greenwich Fire Department Assistant Chief Brian Koczak, Engine 2 was dispatched at 5:51 a.m. to the area of East Elm Street and Anderson Road after reports of no water service. Some water was showing, so the truck moved in further to investigate.

“While the road looked fine, it was undermined underneath, and the road gave way. It allowed one side of the engine to sink up to the frame,” Koczak said, noting that some houses in the area were damaged by water.

The GFD is still on scene with a tow company trying to figure out the best way to remove the fire truck without damaging it.

Aquarion says water restoration should be completed Monday between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. A contractor is also on scene as officials try to repair the road and open it back up.

“During and after the outage event, some customers may experience discolored water. You may want to use stored water for drinking and cooking, and delay clothes washing until water is clear,” Aquarion said in their outage notification. “Run your cold water faucet until the water appears clear, prior to resuming use for these purposes.”

Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
