Tony’s…The Perfect Romantic Date Spot in Greenwich is a Restaurant You Probably Drive by Every Day.

Tony’s at the J House is, in my humble opinion, one of the best date spots in Greenwich. Now, this isn’t an every week kind of date night. No, my boyfriend and I hit Tony’s once every six months minimum. Usually, we just go for my birthday, but this year we decided to spice it up a bit and went on Valentine’s Day instead apparently one or two other couples had the same idea we did! We called almost two weeks in advance for a reservation for 6pm, to be told they didn’t have any tables available until 8pm. That didn’t bother us, so we excitedly took the 8pm slot.

We got there on Valentine’s Day to find complimentary valet service, which was very nice and unexpected. We arrived five minutes to eight and were seated almost immediately in a sweet little both in the back of the restaurant. Once we had ordered our wine, Tony himself came over to bring us our wine and wish us a happy Valentine’s Day. One of my favorite things about Tony’s is that Tony is actually walking around and talking with guests all evening and making sure everyone is having a good time.

Since it was Valentine’s Day, my boyfriend and I went all out! We ordered a charcuterie board to start which came with all the works including truffle infused cheese which is a particular favorite of mine. For the entree, we decided to split a ribeye steak with truffle butter and tagliatelle truffle- are you sensing a theme here? Truffle is my favorite flavor if you couldn’t tell…

The charcuterie board is loaded up with wonderful meats and cheeses. I personally find it to be a little heavy on the meat with not enough cheese but cheese is one of my great loves so I may be biased. The flavors are all very complementary to each other, and it’s a well balanced starter that is not too heavy while still being just enough to tide you over until the main course. My boyfriend did remark that he wishes it came with some jam or honey, but I found it perfectly fine on its own.

The tagliatelle truffle and steak were served at the same time, and wow- what presentation. The ribeye comes on the bone as a “tomahawk” and I have to admit, it’s a little surreal. The meat is perfectly cooked, juicy, flavorful, and tender. Truly it is a steak worthy of its price point. The truffle butter on top adds another layer of intense flavor to an already spectacular dish and just elevates it that little bit more.

The tagliatelle truffle is so packed with truffle that it coats every bite- literally you can see the black truffle coating every inch of pasta, it is delightful. It comes with a truffle cream sauce and a lobster tail on top which is the perfect finisher to the positively spectacular symphony of flavors within this dish. There’s no doubt that truffle is the star but the romano cheese in the cream sauce gives you that little bit of sharpness that perfectly balances the rest of the dish.

We finished off with a creme brulee for me and a cheesecake for him. After such flavorful meals I was a little worried that such simple desserts wouldn’t be able to stand up, but I was absolutely proven incorrect. The creme brulee was packed full of vanilla beans (my second favorite flavor) and was beautifully silky with an amazing crack from breaking the top layer of sugar. The cheesecake was tangy and creamy, and while I don’t love it as much as their impeccable creme brulee, my boyfriend was definitely pleased with his choice.

All in all, while Tony’s is definitely not a place we go frequently, my boyfriend and I adore the atmosphere that’s somehow both cozy and the perfect level of formal, and their absolutely unbeatable food especially for truffle lovers like me. Cheers!
