Christ Church Greenwich has issued a call to the Rev. Shancia Ralna Jarrett, a recent graduate of the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale who possesses a very vibrant faith, and she has accepted the call to join the staff of Christ Church.

Shancia is a very talented young woman. Bishop Ian Douglass ordained Shancia as a Deacon in July. She will eventually be ordained as a priest and will begin her ministry with on December 1 as a Curate. She will be focused on outreach, worship planning, and new member ministry.

Born in Jamaica, Shancia moved with her family to the United States when she was three years old. She later earned a B.A. in Science, Speech Pathology and Audiology and her Masters in Disability Studies from City University of New York. She exudes compassion and joy.

Since 2015, Shancia has worked with the Episcopal Service Corp-New Reach in New Haven; Christ Church and Saint John’s Church in New Haven; Christ Church Cathedral, Hartford, and Saint Paul’s Church, Wallingford. Most recently, she has worked as an Affordable Housing Consultant and Convener of New Haven’s Affordable Housing Taskforce.

Shancia sees her mission as “to proclaim the Good News of God and to administer the sacraments while serving in an Episcopal parish, participating in national ministries, and promoting Christ’s love through pastoral care, community engagements, biblical competence, and justice.”

Senior Warden George Belshaw says “Shancia’s warm heart and devotion to the people of the church was apparent when I first met her. She will be a wonderful addition to our clergy team.”

“Shancia has a warm and engaging personality and a proven commitment to outreach. What she loves most about Christ Church is our traditional worship and outstanding music program. Shancia will expand and enrich who we are at Christ Church,” said the Rev. Marek Zabriskie.

Shancia shares “There are no words to holistically capture the joy and solace of my new appointment as the curate of Christ Church Greenwich. I look forward to joining the clergy team of Christ Church, where I can recenter myself in Christian ministry by participating in community outreach and worship services. I pray that you are just as excited as I am! Most importantly, I look forward to learning more about you and your love of God and the church.”

She currently lives in Stamford, CT and will be living on campus in the Tomes-Higgins House. Her family lives in New York City and in Stamford, so Shancia feels right at home in our area.
