Byram Library Launches Computer Access by Appointment

Greenwich Library will continue its phased re-opening process on Thursday, July 9, when patrons will be allowed to enter the lower level of the Byram Shubert Library to access computers, printers, scanners and copiers by appointment. The collections will remain closed. Additional phased openings are planned at the Cos Cob Branch Library and Main Library over the summer.

In order to ensure the safety of staff and patrons by allowing for social distancing inside the Library, all services will be available by same-day or next-day appointments only to Greenwich residents and Greenwich Library card holders. Patrons should call 203-625-6596 to schedule an appointment. Access will be available during the same hours as No-Contact Pickup.

Pick Up and computer access will be available at the Byram Shubert Library: Monday to Wednesday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.; Thursday 1 – 7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Computer usage will be limited to one appointment per patron, per day with a one-hour limit. However, if no one is waiting and there are no appointments following, they may be extended for another 30-60 minutes. Computer access is only available for adults over 18, and only one person will be allowed at a computer at a time.

The Library also requires that patrons wear a mask at all times and sanitize keyboard and mouse before using a computer with supplies provided. Library staff will monitor shared spaces and clean the printer, copier, and other equipment regularly. Computers will be spaced a safe distance apart. All Library users are required to wear a mask while in the building, and social distancing will be enforced. Library staff will remain 6 feet away from users when providing computer assistance.

If patrons prefer to print from home wirelessly, they can send their print jobs, and call the Library to schedule a time to print. Patrons are encouraged to bring coins and small bills; staff will not handle money or make change.

No-Contact Pick Up continues, so Library visitors will not be able to browse books (or other library materials) on the shelves. Returns are quarantined for three days. All shelves will be closed to the public. Instead, patrons can place holds on items and schedule a No-Contact Pickup time at the Library of their choice.
