Greenwich Performing Arts Studio Offers Summer Workshops

Rolling registration is underway for the Greenwich Performing Arts Studio’s ‘hybrid’ summer theatre program, designed to keep young performers in the spotlight despite all obstacles.

When the world began to crumble in March, shutting down daily life as we know it, many small businesses were at a difficult crossroads. How to proceed, how to engage the community, and how to move forward in such an uncertain and unprecedented climate? As the owner of a local nonprofit performing arts studio in Cos Cob, Michelle Marceau had to reevaluate how all her classes and summer programs would move forward, considering the importance of collaboration and face-to-face communication in youth performing arts.

So, how to continue teaching choreography or gathering around the piano to learn a melody? And how to continue implementing crucial public speaking and communicative skills through musicals, plays, commercials, monologues and more?

Marceau noted that, “The work we are doing is too important to stop for any reason. Even when everything is against us, we will continue to find ways to serve the community and to do what we love – giving each individual child the chance to build confidence, grow in their talent, and learn in their own way, which isn’t possible in large scale community ensemble productions and programs.”

The “hybrid summer programs” will allow for parents to register with the ease and guarantee of their own comfort level, with a mix of both virtual (ZOOM) and in-person opportunities. Each program is two weeks long and four hours a day, broken up by a two-hour lunch break. Two hours in the morning are dedicated to workshops and sessions with guest artists. Afternoons are dedicated to choreography, music, and more for the shows being produced and recorded for ages 7-14:
• ‘101 Dalmatians’ (July 6-July 17),
• ‘You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown’ (July 20-July 31)
• ‘Broadway Review’ (Aug. 3-Aug. 14)

90-minute classes will also be available for teens in Musical Theatre, Acting, Acting/Improv and Audition Technique.
