Coronavirus updates from First Selectman Camillo will now be given on an as-needed basis.

*Correction. An earlier version of this article mentioned that hours at Byram Park and Tod’s Point were now expanded to 7 p.m. The expansion of hours will go into effect on June 10.

First Selectman Fred Camillo and Chief Operating Officer of Greenwich Hospital, Diane Kelly, gave an update on the coronavirus on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Greenwich Health Department, there are 795 Greenwich residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, up from 755 reported on Friday, May 22.

At Greenwich Hospital, there are 21 COVID-19 positive patients being treated in several different Hospital units, including two patients who are in the Intensive Care Unit.

So far, 513 patients have been discharged from the Hospital and continue their recuperation at home. There have been 7,407 people tested at the Hospital outpatient test site with 1,903 testing positive. These numbers reflect patients who live in Greenwich as well as those from other municipalities in Connecticut and in Westchester County.

According to the Connecticut Department of Public Health, 46 Greenwich residents have died from COVID-19 as of Tuesday, May 26.

Although there has been a slight increase in positive cases around Town the last few days, Kelly said it’s not concerning.

“The number of discharge patients is positive,” Kelly said. “We are definitely discharging more patients with COVID than we are seeing new cases coming in. That tells you that the spread is definitely declining significantly in the population.”

Because of the continued decline, parks and recreation activities and park hours are being expanded.

“We’re going to be expanding the hours of the beaches,” Camillo said, noting that Byram and Tod’s Point will be open until 7 p.m effective June 10. “We’re going to be pushing up Cos Cob Park a few hours with the hope of getting it back to normal hours very soon.”

The tennis courts on Loughlin Avenue will reopen on Saturday, May 30. Also on May 30, doubles tennis will be allowed at all Town courts that are open. The newly-opened Cobber North restaurant at The Griffith E. Harris Golf Course is now open as well, with patio dining and take-out available.

Camillo said the Town continues to monitor if people are following mask guidelines and social distancing protocols, and that residents “are really doing a good job.”

“As I discussed with Gov. Ned Lamont on Monday and Tuesday, we are monitoring everything. If we do see a signifiant spike, we’re prepared to pull things back a little bit to get things under control,” said Camillo. “We’re hoping that with social distancing, physical distancing and people washing their hands and wearing masks that we won’t have to do that.”

Filling Out the Census

Camillo is urging residents to do their part and get counted in the 2020 Census.
