The Greenwich Girl Scouts are learning first-hand what it means to be courageous and innovative to make the world a better place. Girl Scouts Troops have quickly adapted to social distancing guidelines by holding meetings virtually. Many troops have switched focus to how they can help the community during this unprecedented time of COVID-19.

Greenwich Girl Scout Junior Troop 50148 held a virtual meeting in April via Zoom so the girls could “see” each other and participate in an in-home scavenger hunt. After realizing how lucky they were to have so much at home, the resourceful girls wanted to help their neighbors and other children who may not be as fortunate at this time. They decided to donate their remaining Girl Scout cookies, arts & crafts supplies, paper towels, and laundry detergent to Kids In Crisis.

Frances Wu Nobay, Girl Scouts of Connecticut Greenwich Service Unit Co-Manager, says: “Now more than ever, Girl Scouts need each other – for a social outlet, for community connection, for a leadership opportunity. Whether near or far, virtual or in person, these girls are sisters to each other and thrive in any environment.”

Coreen Serfilippi, mother of Arabella, a fifth grade Girl Scout with Greenwich Girl Scout Troop #50303 North Street School shares “We are so grateful that Girl Scouts has continued virtually. This is just what Arabella needs to stay connected with her friends and make personal accomplishments.”

Leftover Girl Scout cookies were a concern for many local Greenwich Troops after annual cookie booth sales were canceled amid the coronavirus stay-home, stay-safe directive. Girl Scouts of Connecticut took part in a national program called Eat, Share, Care. Corporations and individuals instead purchase unsold boxes of the cookies for donation to area hospitals. This program led by the Girls Scouts of Connecticut helped many Greenwich troops who use the proceeds from cookie sales for community service projects. The cookie program has also been extended and cookies are still available to anyone interested in contactless payment and delivery: girlscouts.org/en/cookie-care.html
