Letter: Statement from the Nathaniel Witherell

lettertotheeditor

To the Editor,

The Nathaniel Witherell, like all nursing homes throughout the country, has been impacted by the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. As soon as this health emergency was identified, we implemented a rigorous COVID-19 Response Plan to prevent the spread of disease. This included monitoring and screening residents and staff for symptoms, implementing environmental safety precautions, restricting visitors, and practicing social isolation. We’ve also maintained consistent and transparent communication with our residents and their families. Any COVID-19 positive residents were immediately isolated in a separate unit.

Our team at The Nathaniel Witherell which includes RN’s, LPN’s, CNA’s, our Nurse Practitioner, Respiratory Therapist and Dr. Francis Walsh, our Medical Director, have provided exceptional care. As a result, many of the residents afflicted by the coronavirus have recovered, and even more are in stable condition. Our hearts are full from the outpouring of community support we’ve received through donations of PPE and other essentials.

We continue to follow all recommended guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Connecticut Department of Health to continue to safeguard the health of our residents and staff.

Joanne L Kotulski
Interim Administrator, The Nathaniel Witherell
