On Thursday, March 19, First Selectman Fred Camillo gave his daily press briefing to give an update on the Town’s response to COVID-19.

As of Thursday morning, 250 people have been tested in the garage site of Greenwich Hospital. Of those, 44 have returned positive. However, not all 44 confirmed cases are residents of Greenwich, as the Hospital has received patients from neighboring counties as well. Three of those who tested positive are receiving care at Greenwich hospital, while the remainder are self-isolating at home.

For those who believe they are infected with COVID-19, do not go to the Hospital unless you need urgent care. In order to be tested, call your doctor’s office and request a physician order. Yale New Haven Health has established a call center open from 7 A.M. to 7 P.M. to answer any questions on COVID-19: 1-833 ASK YNHH

The Department of Parks and Recreations will deploy staff to monitor and encourage compliance with social distancing practices at parks and beaches. “Many people are home because of the closure(s)… providing them the opportunity to use our parks system. I cannot stress strongly enough that while it is advantageous and uplifting to experience nature, this is not an opportunity to gather with family and friends in public spaces. If there continues to be an issue with groups gathering in the parks and beaches, I will be forced to make the decision to close all those facilities as well,” Mr. Camillo stated.

In order to protect the quality of life for residents who are maintaining social distancing at home, effective 6 P.M. Thursday, March 19, 2020 properties within Greenwich may only be serviced by one gasoline-powered leaf blower at a given time.

Officers who are regularly assigned to direct traffic on Greenwich Avenue will be redeployed to handle non-emergency calls, patrol the central Greenwich business district, and backfill other requirements.

The Building Inspection Division will continue to accept inspection requests that do not require interactions with multiple people. Outdoor inspections are being scheduled while indoor inspections will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Due to these exceptional circumstances, Access Health CT has announced a new Special Enrollment Period available from March 19 through Aril 2, 2020 for qualified uninsured CT residents. For more information, please visit https://learn.accesshealthct.com/

For those residents experiencing challenges with food, finances, and living arrangements, please call the Department of Human Services at 203-622-3800. “With these uncertain times, Greenwich is demonstrating that we are members of a community that supports one another. We are resilient and making every effort to maintain the health and safety of our residents to ensure the spread of the virus is minimized by our collective and collaborative safety precautions,” Mr. Camillo said.
