Abilis, and Special Education Legal Fund (S.E.L.F.), are presenting a free four-part informational session on how to advocate for your child in school. These sessions will be held March 3, March 10, March 17 and March 31, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., at 90 Maple Ave., Stamford. Registration is required and can be made by emailing Karen Feder at feder@abilis.us or call 203-324-1880 x302. This program is for Spanish speaking ESL and ELL families only.

The Abilis and Special Education Legal Fund Workshop series focuses on helping families whose children are struggling in school, who are concerned about their child’s behavior or about problems the student is experiencing at school. If your child is having difficulty in school, whether it is academic, behavioral or social, he or she may be eligible for special services and accommodations. Learn about a student’s rights and how to best help your child succeed.

The workshops will focus on:

Session 1 on March 3: Foundations

Session 2 on March 10: Application, Communication & Problem Solving

Session 3 on March 17: Civics, History and Laws

Session 4 on March 31: Meeting with a Special Education Attorney

*Note: families must attend the first three sessions to be eligible for the fourth and final session of the workshop.

All of the workshops will be taught in English and Spanish. Materials are in English and Spanish. Family members (mother, father, sibling over 18 or legal guardian) may attend Sessions I-3 for Session 4 eligibility. Breakfast will be provided at each workshop and childcare is available (please inform Abilis of need of childcare upon registration).
