For many people, the start of a new year is marked by the promise of living a healthier life, starting with a proper, balanced diet. One local business is making it easier than ever to get a healthy dinner on the table each night.

Kinney Lane is healthy prepared food delivery service comprised of organic, nutrient dense meals where the only requirement customers have is to “heat and then eat,” according to founder and Old Greenwich resident Rachel Mahoney.

Mahoney has always had a passion for healthy, tasty foods, and knew that access and time were the primary challenges facing not just busy parents like herself, but people in general – think shopping for organic produce, dicing, slicing, prepping, and getting dinner on the table – all while juggling the rigors of everyday life.

“I was faced with some health issues that stemmed from overworking and overlooking proper nutrition and had to re-examine my approach to food” said Mahoney. “I began using nutrition to heal (such as organic leafy greens, healthy fats and nutrient dense veggies) and once I saw the transformation in my health, I wanted to put my culinary training to use.”

Mahoney, inspired by a family of great cooks, started cooking at a young age with her parents.  Her grandmother grew her own fruits and vegetables at her home garden in upstate N.Y.  Mahoney named her business after her grandmother’s home, Kinney Lane, as she always treasured these fond memories of the beautiful, freshly prepared meals there.

Before starting the business just over a year ago, Mahoney enjoyed a successful career in advertising while living in NY. But she continually felt the constant pull of her culinary passion.

She enrolled in The French Culinary Institute in SOHO and then started catering on nights and weekends to learn the business.  But when Mahoney and her husband moved to Old Greenwich to start their family, she knew the time was right, particularly as she felt there was a real need for healthy food options for the busy doers like herself.

“Starting a business with a young child was difficult, but also the most rewarding part,” said Mahoney, who has one son and another one on the way. “I love being able to teach my kid (s) that they can live their dreams and that women can be a mom and a boss.”

Kinney Lane meals are always prepared fresh (in a commercial kitchen in Stamford) with deliveries on Monday’s and Wednesday’s between 4-6pm.  Menu items are offered a la carte, or customers can select from a pre-selected option with a minimum of $50 per order.  Pick-up is also available at Pure Barre in Greenwich and Elliptica Studio in Old Greenwich.

Mahoney says their Mediterranean and Asian-inspired meals are always in high demand because the ingredients are always very healthy, but the bold tastes are quite satisfying.   Favorites include Chicken Fajitas, Kun Pao Chicken, Cauliflower Fried Rice & Sweet Potato Lentil Daal but the menu changes each week.

While a plethora of meal delivery services exist today, Mahoney says what makes Kinney Lane unique is that all ingredients in their dishes are locally sourced, seasonal, and organic so people can also feel good about what they eat while reaping the health benefits – not to mention the ease of door-to-door freshness.

“When we create our menus, we always create them with families in mind as Greenwich is a family-focused community,” said Mahoney who plans to expand her business throughout Fairfield County.

When asked what Mahoney loves best about food and her new endeavor? “I love that food brings people together and am happy that we can take the stress away from families so they can just spend time together around the table with the pressure of having to cook.”

“Food can be the best medicine and we want to bring health to people’s doors and make it as easy as possible to feel good about their food choices.”

Custom events, cooking classes and subscriptions are also available. Visit kinneylane.com for more information on their January reset menu or to sign up for meal delivery.
