Miller to Lead Discussion on Global Refugee Crisis

Dr. Sarah Deardorff Miller, Senior Fellow, Refugees International, will lead a discussion on the global refugee situation and some of the largest displacement crises at a presentation at the Greenwich Historical Society on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. She will consider why refugees are increasingly unwelcome and highlight how our local experience relates to the broader international system. The presentation is part of a series of events the Historical Society is hosting this fall to provide greater perspective on the immigrant and refugee experience, in conjunction with its new exhibition: “An American Story: Finding Home in Fairfield County.” Presented in partnership with the Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants and the Fairfield Museum and History Center, the exhibition is on view through Jan. 6, 2020.

Dr. Deardorff Miller currently teaches with Columbia University (School of International and Public Affairs), American University (School of International Studies) and the University of London (School of Advanced Study) online.  She holds a doctorate from the University of Oxford and focuses on the politics of forced migration.  She also consults with various refugee-focused non-governmental organizations, and recently released a book on Syrian displacement. Other research interests include global governance and the global refugee regime, the role of international organizations in humanitarian crises, and responses to internal displacement. She lives in Greenwich with her husband, two children, and two dogs.
