‘Make Music Greenwich’ Debuts June 21

The first annual Make Music Greenwich, a vibrant outdoor festival featuring over ten free musical bands, is being launched by the Greenwich Arts Council on Friday, June 21 outside their building at 299 Greenwich Ave. Make Music Greenwich is part of Make Music Day, a global music celebration that takes place on the summer solstice each year and brings people of all ages and skill levels together to make music.

Make Music Day began in France in 1982 as the inclusive Fête de la Musique, and has spread to over 1,000 cities across 120 countries. Make Music concerts features classical to folk, Latin jazz to rock, with live music of all kinds on the longest day of the year across over 80 U.S. cities, as part of the world’s largest annual music event.

“Make Music Greenwich is a wonderful demonstration of the Greenwich Arts Council’s commitment to promoting the musical arts,” says Sarah Balcombe, Assistant Curator of Greenwich Arts Council. “Greenwich has an incredible array of talent and we welcome this opportunity to showcase a complete range of musicians, from fresh, new bands to renowned skilled artists, all of whom are passionate about bringing music to the community.”

Highlights of Make Music Greenwich will include: Launch of Abacus rock band, Jazz trio Footprints, Afro-Peruvian band Yuri Juarez, Original music by Jazz guitarist Michael-Louis Smith, Young Artists Philharmonic flute choir, SAMOSA’s reggae, rock, soul and world music, Inclusive drum circle by Matthew’s Community Drumming, Exit 5 popular sound, Smooth groove dance by Nine of Hearts.
