Interim Superintendent of Schools, Ralph Mayo, has announced the appointment of Anthony Duncan as the assistant principal of Cos Cob School, effective July 1.

Duncan has been a social studies teacher at Eastern Middle School since 2004. He has also served as Site Supervisor for the GPS Summer School program since 2017 and has held numerous leadership roles at EMS and in the District, including as Learning Facilitator for the Social Studies Department at EMS.

“It has been a pleasure to be a part of the Eastern Middle School family over the past fifteen years,” Duncan said in a release from Greenwich Public Schools. It is an honor and a privilege to be joining Cos Cob School as Assistant Principal. I am looking forward to getting to know all of the students, staff and families of this special community.”

Mayo praised Duncan and called him “a remarkable advocate for students” and an “excellent instructor and a man of good character.”

“I can say all these things and more as Mr. Duncan and I were colleagues at Eastern Middle School for 14 years. Mr. Duncan is a very creative and energetic classroom teacher who is in constant communication with the parents of the students in his classroom,” Mayo added. “Each of these characteristics will help him make a seamless transition to the Assistant Principal role at Cos Cob School. The Cos Cob community expects a great deal from the leadership at their school and I am confident that Mr. Duncan will exceed their expectations.”

After two years (2002-2004) as a middle school social studies teacher in the New York City Public Schools as part of their Teaching Fellows Program, Duncan came to the Greenwich Public Schools in 2004. Since that time he has served as the Boys B Soccer and baseball coach, and as the lighting director for the school musical and talent show. In addition, he currently serves on the School Improvement Team, works with the District coaches to plan professional development of EMS teachers, is the Learning Facilitator for the EMS Social Studies Department and is a member of the District Humanities Committee.

Duncan received a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from Boston College in 2002; a Master of Arts in teaching from New York University in 2004; and an Intermediate Administrator Certification from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn.
