The Art Society of Old Greenwich (ASOG) will present a workshop/demonstration on creating fiber art, on Wednesday, May 15 from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Greenwich Botanical Center, 130 Bible St. There is a fee of $10 for ASOG members, $20 for non-members. The program is open to all.

The instructor is artist and teacher Jill Parry, who has experience in creating and teaching fiber arts, as well as a variety of other media. In the ASOG workshop, “participants will create a textured fiber artwork using fabric pieces, scraps, yarns and threads, layering and then sewing pieces into canvas to create a finished ready-to-hang masterpiece.” Jill will show examples and demonstrate techniques before participants start their own works of art.

Born in Wales, Jill Parry studied art and design in the U.K. at Birmingham College of Art and took additional studies at Slade Scholl of Fine Art in London. She has a wide involvement in the arts through her teaching, traveling and exhibiting. She has taught textile design at the University of Papua New Guinea and has run a workshop and hand-painted silks studio at Camden Lock in London.

Currently, Parry teaches classes and workshops in figure painting, a critiques class for artists and conducts artists’ residences in schools and community centers. Her work, in various media, has been exhibited in many galleries in New York and Connecticut and is in private collections in the U.S. and England.

The ASOG welcomes all who enjoy viewing and creating art. You need not be a professional artist nor pass a jury or judging selection. Annual membership is $50. For more information, visit asogct.com or email at artsocietyoldgreenwich@gmail.com
