Beginning on Monday and stretching through Friday of this week, Riverside School will host its “Run for Life” event for students and staff.

Each day during their P.E. class and recess, children in all grades will run and walk laps around the school’s large field to raise money for pediatric brain cancer research at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital.

Last year, students raised over $6,000, completing over 15,000 laps (totaling 2,600 miles) over the week. Last year’s effort was in support of Hearn’s disease, a rare genetic disease that affects the blood vessels in the brain. All proceeds from the event went to Mt. Sinai Hospital.

“We are thrilled to be participating in the Run for Life event a second year in a row,” said Christopher Weiss, Riverside School Principal, in a press release. The school kicked-off this year’s event during an assembly Monday morning.

“It’s a wonderful thing to expose students to different types of charities and teach them the importance of giving at an early age,” Weiss added. “It also incorporates physical fitness which is a great lead up to our community-wide Riverside Run event on Saturday, May 11.”
