Sacred Heart Greenwich in collaboration with Random Hacks of Kindness Jr. is hosting Kids Coding for a Cause, a “hackathon” for social good for boys and girls in fourth to eighth grade, on Saturday, May 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the school’s campus, 1177 King St.

Students will be working with computer science mentors to create technology for social good by helping local charities.  Students will work in groups to brainstorm, design and code prototype smartphone apps using MIT’s APP Inventor.

Android devices will be provided for building and testing apps, but you are welcome to bring your own. Participants may also bring their own laptops to work on.

Random Hacks of Kindness Jr., Inc. was developed by Patrice Gans as an opportunity to empower and inspire youth to use technology for social good.

Mentors and representatives from the non-profit organizations will also have the opportunity to educate the participating students about the work of their organizations.

Pre-registration is required. The registration fee is $18, which includes snacks, lunch and t-shirts. Participants may register at rhokjr.org/event/sacred-heart-greenwich-2019/. For additional information contact Patrice Gans at reesegans@gmail.com
