The weather is warming up outside and the Greenwich High School Band Program is ready to welcome in the next season at its Spring Concert, which will be held on Wednesday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m., in the GHS Performing Arts Center.

The Percussion Ensemble will open the program with a captivating arrangement of a timeless work, Flight of the Bumble Bee by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, followed by the fast paced Sabre Dance by Aram Khachaturian.

Next the Concert Band will delight the audience with Overture de Argentina by James D. Ployhar, A Walk in the Morning Sun by Pierre La Plante, and Ancient Air and Dance by Elliot Del Borgo.

The Symphony Band will then perform Bright Lights by Robert Sheldon, Music for Winds and Percussion by Elliot Del Borgo and Freedom City by Karl L. King.

After intermission the Wind Ensemble takes the stage to perform Folk by Dmitri Shostakovich by Ed. H. Robert Reynolds, George Washington Bridge by William Schuman and Bandancing by Jack Stamp, which is performed in five movements: Shuffle, Tango, Waltz, Slow Dance and Last Dance. The idea behind Bandancing is to employ the sounds and rhythms of popular music within the framework of classical form and procedures.

The Combined Bands will take the stage to end the evening’s performance with Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral from Lohengrin by Richard Wagner.

Admission is free and all are welcome.
