The Greenwich Department of Health announced that David Fraszka has been appointed to the position of Part-Time Public Health Emergency Preparedness/Response Coordinator for the Town of Greenwich.

Fraszka has been hired under a limited financial federal grant to assist the Department of Health with its responsibilities to prepare for and respond to public health emergencies, whether man-made or natural. He will serve as the contact person for State and local public health emergency planning coordination activities.

Fraszka will work with various community agencies and organizations to prepare for emergencies. He will also participate in public health planning activities, which involve all emergency response area disciplines such as hospitals, EMS, Emergency Management, Mass Care, Long Term Care and Community Healthcare Organizations.

Fraszka is a graduate of Penn State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Kinesiology and Master of Professional Studies degree in Homeland Security. He worked in the Health Services field before joining the Yonkers Police Department in 2011, where he is currently employed and holds a rank of Sergeant. In his role as a Patrol Supervisor, he provides guidance to field police officers and conducts planning and response efforts to emergency situations.

“Mr. Fraszka’s educational background and working experience bring special insight into this position and the Department’s commitment to plan for public health emergencies in the Town of Greenwich. It’s the Department’s goal to keep residents safe by providing them with needed information to plan for emergencies and to be a part of the planning and response activities in the community,” said Director of Health, Caroline Baisley. Fraszka will assist in recruiting medical and non-medical volunteers for an emergency response and work with Town emergency responders to strengthen the planning and emergency response efforts.

“In assuming his duties,” said Chairman of the Board of Health, Robert Carangelo, “David Fraszka will be especially helpful in bolstering emergency planning efforts in the community because of his knowledge of emergency management, his professional training, his strong agency coordination skills and his ideal educational background in Homeland Security. This is a truly a great opportunity for the Town to recognize how important this position is for the Town, especially with such a talented candidate that has been cross trained in other emergency disciplines.”
