Python Programmers Lounge at Greenwich Library

python-programming-for-kids

This month, the Library introduces Python Programmers’ Lounge Workshop, a new STEAM series for students in grades 6 to 11 (ages 11 to 17) focused on delving deeper into the coding language Python. Four workshops will be held in March and registration is required.

Python is an easy-to-learn, powerful programming language. It offers efficient high-level data structures and a simple but effective approach to object-oriented programming. Python’s readable syntax and dynamic typing, together with its interpreted nature, make it an ideal language for scripting.

In these workshops, students will write programs that perform algebraic operations, automatically round numbers, and draw colorful geometric shapes based on user input. Every week, students will create games and complete a new project that reinforces the concepts they’ve learned while also forming a connection with other computer science principles. Prior experience with Python or Scratch is required.

Workshops will be held on Mondays, March 11 and 18, and Wednesdays, March 13 and 20, at 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Registration, using the Library’s online calendar, is required. Young adult and teen programs and services are made available to Library patrons at no charge through the support of the Greenwich Library Board of Trustees and contributions by generous donors. For more information, contact Teen Librarian Ed Morrissey at emorrissey@greenwichlibrary.org or by calling 203-622-7918.
