On Tuesday, Jan. 22, Marilyn Smith Kordas, 80, lost her battle with breast cancer. She passed away peacefully at home in Scottsdale, Ari., surrounded by her family.

Marilyn was born in Port Chester, N.Y. on June 22, 1938 to Norman and Florence Smith. After graduating from Port Chester High School in 1956 she went on to Greenwich Hospital Nursing School, where she graduated in 1959 and began her career as a Recovery Room Nurse. While attending Nursing School she met the love of her life, Frank “Buddy” Kordas. The two married in 1960. They moved to Greenwich in 1967, where they raised their four children until they decided to move to a warmer climate in 1986. Marilyn continued her career as a nurse at Scottsdale Memorial North and Piper Surgical Center in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Marilyn had a great love for the outdoors and gardening. She could usually be found digging, weeding and planting in her many well-manicured gardens. From 1968-1977 she was a passionate Girl Scout Leader who devoted her time, and left a positive impact on many young women.

She is survived by her husband, Frank of almost 60 years and her four children Stephanie Kordas Penman (Malcolm), Kyle J. Kordas, Quillyn Kordas Baldwin and Collin S. Kordas, and many loving grandchildren. She will be missed tremendously. A private service will be held.
