Panel to Discuss Future of Eastern Greenwich Civic Center

On Thursday, Jan. 31, The Riverside Association will host a panel discussion on plans for possible improvements to the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center (EGCC). First Selectman Peter Tesei will introduce the topic and several members of the EGCC Advisory Committee, charged with developing the request for the Capital Improvement Project, will be on hand to talk about the process thus far.

Last June, the Department of Parks & Recreation underwrote a survey of residents asking what they would like to see at a new EGCC. Responses were received from 2,385 people. Sports Facilities Advisory (SFA), the consulting firm which conducted the survey, has recommended the best course of action for the town based on the survey results. Its 167 page report contains an executive summary which focuses on two options that SFA believes should be considered for the site as well as a detailed survey results.

The Riverside Association board believes it is time for residents to learn more about what is being considered for the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center. Many residents are still in the dark about whether the group making the formal recommendations to the town will support simply reworking the existing structure or adding new athletic and community facilities. The board hopes this will be clarified at the meeting.

The discussion will be held at the Civic Center, 90 Harding Rd. in Old Greenwich, beginning at approximately 7:50 p.m., immediately following the Riverside Association’s annual business meeting which is set to begin at 7:30. All residents interested in the Civic Center topic are invited to attend this informative discussion.
