Special Education Legal Fund, headquartered in Greenwich, and co-founded by Greenwich residents Christine Lai and Ulrika Drinkall, announces the first in a series of parent seminars intended to help parents advocate for their children in special education. These information sessions are intended for parents with children in special education or children with particular learning needs and challenges.

“Advocating for a child in special education is an overwhelming experience,” Lai said. “When a child receives a referral for special education, it is often confusing and emotional. We want to make sure parents can have access to the information necessary to properly advocate for their children, regardless of their financial background.”

The first information session, “Be Your Child’s Best Advocate,” will feature Lara Damashek from Early Insight Advocacy. The program will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 12:30 p.m. at Next Generation Pediatrics, 644 West Putnam Ave. #203. The event is free and open to all; registration is required.

Lara Damashek is the founder of Early Insight Advocacy and is a parent advocate with experience as a public school teacher, special education attorney, and mother of a child with an IEP.
