Town Holds Wreaths Across America Ceremony

Members of the American Legion Post #29, Mary Bush C.A.R and the Stamford and Greenwich D.A.R.’s honored past and present veterans. Holding wreaths are (l-r): Jason Bacon,Walter Casey, Mariam Ojjeh, Peter LeBeau, Katie Sumner, Don Havelka, Carl Peck, Margaret Yankowski and Vince Masi.

The Greenwich community held the town’s 12th annual Wreaths Across America Ceremony on Dec. 15, 2018, at Tomac Cemetery in Old Greenwich, where 27 known Greenwich Revolutionary War and some Civil War patriots are buried.

The ceremony is a offshoot of the Arlington National Cemetery laying of the wreaths on veterans’ gravesites and at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Monument at noon on this date. This ceremony was being held simultaneously in several towns throughout the country. Jason Bacon, Honorary Connecticut President and Honorary President of local Mary Bush Society of the Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.) with the help of Miriam Ojjeh, the current Mary Bush C.A.R President, ran this year’s ceremony.

Bacon has been organizing and running this event for the past eight years by himself which has been a 12-year tradition in the Bacon-Sumner family handed down from his older siblings. Every year the American Legion Post #29 veterans and fellow Mary Bush C.A.R students honor veterans who are serving, or had served the country.
