Marie Antoinette Dougherty, 91, of Greenwich, CT, passed away in her home on December 6, 2018. She was an internationally known Chinese brush-painting artist, whose work was exhibited worldwide.

She was born in Vietnam, French Indochina, on March 30, 1927. Her parents Rene and Alina Laplaud were born in France. Her father worked for the French government in Saigon. She spent the first 60 years of her life in South East Asia, Africa and France. In addition to being an art teacher, she was an accomplished pianist and accordion player. Throughout her life she was involved in numerous charitable organizations.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Emmett Dougherty, who she met in Bangkok, Thailand where he was transferred as an engineer and executive by CaltexOil. They lived in numerous countries in South East Asia and Africa as his work required. They shared an adventurous life and travelled around the world many times, always stopping in France to visit her parents and extended family and friends. She moved back with her husband and family to the United States where they eventually retired in the New York Area. She is survived by her daughters Marie-Jacques (Mark) Lillard, Yannick (Paul) Rochester, Michele (Joe) Mozian, her grandchildren Mark (Kristen) Lillard, Michael (Jennifer) Lillard, Christopher (Carleigh) Rochester, Nathalie Rochester, Michael Mozian and Alex Mozian and her great grand children Mark Lillard, Luke Lillard and Cameron Lillard.

A private memorial service will be held Feb. 9 at 10 a.m., at Saint Catherine’s Church in Riverside.
