The Greenwich Hospital Auxiliary this year donated $600,000 to Greenwich Hospital to enhance cardiovascular, neurovascular and emergency stroke care.
The donations included $200,000 to fund a neurovascular instrumentation kit used to perform life-saving surgery; $200,000 to fund tele-stroke services in the Emergency Department over four years, which will provide staff and patients immediate access to neurologists who specialize in stroke; and $200,000 toward a five-year pledge of $1 million to support cardiovascular services.
The Auxiliary also funded four annual scholarships for high school graduates studying for healthcare careers.
The gifts were announced during the Auxiliary’s 68th annual meeting on Oct. 4 by its outgoing president, Christine Randolph.
“Thanks to your support our patients are well cared for and made to feel a bit more comfortable in an environment that can be challenging. My deepest thanks to each and every one of you for all that you do for our patients,” said Norman G. Roth, president and chief executive officer of Greenwich Hospital.
A new slate of officers was elected: Sharon Gallagher-Klass of Port Chester, N.Y., president; Nancy Donahue of Port Chester, N.Y., vice president; Ann DeVan of Greenwich, secretary; and Sally Lochner of Greenwich, treasurer.
During the annual meeting, Don Kirk was presented with the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award for his many decades of services as a board of trustee member (including chairman) and hospital volunteer.
Also during the meeting, five volunteers received the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award, a national honor given to those completing 4,000 hours or more of volunteer service over the course of their lifetime. The volunteers were Marguerite Bennett and Sally Lochner, both of Greenwich; Suzanne Rand of Darien; Jane Sims of Old Greenwich; and Thomas White of Larchmont, N.Y.
In addition, the Greenwich Hospital Gift Shop, which is staffed by volunteers, announced that they had received the 2018 Retail Excellence Award from the Association for Healthcare Volunteer Resource Professionals. Part of the American Hospital Association, the award recognizes a retail shop in a healthcare setting that has achieved “exemplary results and has demonstrated substantial benefit to the recipients, to the healthcare organization, the community and to the volunteers providing the service.”
“This year, 526 adult and junior volunteers contributed to the success of Greenwich Hospital by volunteering approximately 46,365 hours of service,” said Stacey Green, director of Volunteer Services. “We greatly appreciate the commitment and generosity of our auxiliary and volunteer force.”
