UPDATE: Thurs., Nov. 15 at 4:15 p.m.: Greenwich and the surrounding area will be enjoying some December weather on Thursday, as the region’s first winter weather event will roll into town.

With a mixed bag of snow, sleet and rain scheduled to hit Southwest Connecticut early afternoon, the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory that will be in effect from 2 to 11 p.m. on Thursday. Mixed precipitation is expected. In total, Greenwich can expect anywhere from 3-7 inches of snow. In addition, icing is possible and wind gusts will be as high as 35 miles per hour is expected.

According to the NWS, a winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads and limited visibility, and use caution while driving.

Jacob Meisel from SWCT/NY Weather believes that the storm will start out intense at first as snow but the eventual changeover from snow to sleet to rain will limit the snow totals somewhat. Meisel said on his SWCT/NY Weather website that the storm will start around 2 p.m. and there were will several hours of intense snow before the mixing from snow to sleet starts around 7 or 8 p.m. and the changeover to all rain will start around 10 p.m. For traveling tomorrow, Meisel believes the worst times on the road are between 4 to 10 p.m.
