Historical Society’s Museum Store, a New Year-round Destination

The expanded Museum Store open daily on the Greenwich Historical Society’s newly reimagined campus has a selection of items for everyone’s gift giving list, whether for the holidays, a special birthday, anniversary or house warming. With merchandise inspired by the art and gardens of Bush-Holley House, the new Museum Store extends the visitor experience, offering a distinctive collection of gifts that span jewelry, apparel, decorative items, garden accessories, books, greeting cards and children’s games, stuffed animals and educational toys.

According to Barbara Johann, Museum Store Manager and one-time owner of Hoagland’s, the collection is designed to address the cultured clientele in Greenwich and surrounding areas. “The merchandise is carefully curated and updated to reflect seasonal themes such as the holidays, spring gardening and summertime pursuits. And we’ll always have a full complement of Greenwich-themed items, such as pewter table top accessories from Woodbury Pewter, including a paperweight and key chain featuring a reproduction of the original key to Toby’s Tavern.”

Special events throughout the year will be organized in the Museum Store and lobby, beginning with an apple tasting, jewelry trunk show and an afternoon tea to kick start holiday shopping:

• Apple Tasting: Mike Geller of Mike’s Organic Delivery will offer a wide variety of samples of delicious local apples and discuss the history of regional apple growers. Year-round, the Greenwich Historical Society’s Artists’ Café, which is open daily, sells Mike’s specialty items from local artisans. For anyone using the coupon code “History” when placing a weekly or à la carte order at mikesorganicdelivery.com, Mike’s will make a 10% donation to the Greenwich Historical Society. The apple tasting is Thursday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. Admission is free; reservations are not required.

• Pomeline-Greenwich Happy Hour Jewelry Trunk Show: Guests will enjoy a glass of wine while designer and Greenwich native Kristen Rothe presents her highly styled collection of wearable art that draws inspiration from classical and contemporary forms. The line is exclusively available in Greenwich at the Greenwich Historical Society’s Museum Store. The show is Thursday, Nov. 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. Admission is free; reservations are not required.

• 25 on the 25th: In honor of Museum Store Sunday, an initiative of the American Alliance of Museums to help shoppers find distinctive and inspirational gifts to support museums’ year-round programs, a 25% discount will be offered on a selection of tree ornaments on Sunday, Nov. 25. Reservations are not required.

• Holiday Afternoon Tea: A variety of seasonal tea blends with traditional sweets catered by the Royal Tea Company, which has served such notables as the Duchess of York and Martha Stewart, will transport shoppers to a more genteel age when afternoon tea was a staple. Sunday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. Members $35; non-members $40. To reserve, go to greenwichhistory.org or call 203-869-6899, ext. 15.

Following the holidays, shoppers can look forward to additional events to warm up cold winter days and evenings, including:

• White Wines of the World: Visitors will enjoy a variety of domestic and international wines with an expert who will provide guidance on pairings with different types of food – a perfect way to warm up on a cold winter evening. Extended shopping hours will be available. Thursday, Jan. 24, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Members: $10; non-members: $15. To reserve, go to greenwichhistory.org or call 203-869-6899.

• Chocolate Sunday! To celebrate February’s link with romance and chocolate, local chocolatiers, chefs and bakers will provide a delicious sampling of treats to indulge the most discriminating chocoholics. Bring the kids: There will be creative craft projects for children to enjoy in the Vanderbilt Education Center. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2 to 4 p.m. Adults members: $15; adult non-members: $20; family: $25. To reserve, go to greenwichhistory.org or call 203-869-6899.

Proceeds from all sales support Greenwich Historical Society’s education and preservation initiatives.

Historical Society members receive a 10% discount on merchandise year-round. All gift purchases will be wrapped at no charge. The Museum Store is open: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, 12 – 4 p.m. Greenwich Historical Society is located at 47 Strickland Rd.
