Marian I. Hurley, 93, of Greenwich, CT, formally of Rye, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Oct. 26, 2018, at home with her daughter, Joan. At Greenwich Hospital Marian’s proud parents, Hazel Turner and Stephen Fedorka, welcomed Marian on Feb. 9, 1925. She was the baby of the family with two older siblings.

Marian attended Port Chester High School and graduated in 1943. During World War II, she had dreams of being a US Marine, however her height stood in her way. Instead, she began working immediately after high school, at the RB&W Bolt & Nut Company, where she met her husband, John “Jack” Hurley. They married in 1947 at Saint Mary’s Church in Port Chester, N.Y. and honeymooned in Washington, D.C. Three children soon followed.

While the kids were young, she was the Head Cook at Midland Annex in Rye, N.Y., then as a bookkeeper at Amscan, and finally at Interstate Lumber Company. In later years, she volunteered at Greenwich Library as a receptionist. Marian was a member of the William L. Mercier Ladies Auxiliary in Plainfield, CT.

Marian loved to travel, which included annual trips to Maine and Vermont. A family 80th birthday celebration in her honor included a cruise through the Panama Canal. However, her favorite treks were to Las Vegas where she and her sister often came home winners.

Marian is survived by: her daughter Joan Hurley of Greenwich, whom she lived with for many years, her granddaughter, Christine (Russ) Cooper of Ridgefield; her son, Michael Hurley and his wife Cheryl, and their children, Amanda (Craig) Deojay, all of Plainfield, and Brenda Hurley of Bradenton, Fla.; her daughter In law, Jessica Hurley of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and her two sons, David Mays (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) and Jack Hurley (Pennsylvania). Marian also had four great-grandchildren. Marian is predeceased by her husband, Jack, her brother, Clarence Fedorka, her sister, Dorothy Elvgren, and her youngest son, Patrick K. Hurley.

Besides hitting the slot machines, Marian loved to do needlepoint, counted cross stitch, knitting and quilting. All the special people in her life received a handmade gift from her, as she enjoyed sharing her talents and love with others. When she wasn’t doing handiwork she delighted in spending time with her great grandchildren.

Per her request, there will be no funeral. A Remembrance Gathering will be held at her house, at 10 Muriel Pl., Greenwich, on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 1 to 5 p.m. Please stop by and share a funny story about Marian; aka Auny, GG, Gram, Grandma, Mom.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, where her great grandson, Oliver, was a patient. 914-493-2272 or to: foundation.westchestermedicalcenter.com/pages/3–ways-to-give/marianhurley or the Greenwich EMS, greenwichems.org or 203-637-7505. Marian took many rides with them, and with other ambulances around the northeast.
