GHS Students Recognized for PSAT/NMSQT Performance

Fifty-two Greenwich High School (GHS) students have been recognized in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program, an annual academic competition for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships, based on their Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQTÒ) scores. Twelve GHS students qualify for scholarships in the National Merit program and forty-five have been recognized as Commended Students. Additionally, eleven GHS students have been named to the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program, based on their PSAT/NMSQTÒ scores and other criteria.

According to the National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSC), over 1.6 million students took the 2017 PSAT/NMSQTÒ last October, from which NMSC identified 16,000 of the highest performers as Semifinalists in the scholarship program. Only Semifinalists have an opportunity to continue in the Merit ScholarshipÒ competition and advance to Finalist standing. Approximately two-thirds of the 50,000 highest achieving students on the PSAT/NMSQTÒ receive Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.

Greenwich High School National Merit Semifinalists, Commended Students, and students named in the National Hispanic Recognition Program will be recognized by the Board of Education on Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at North Mianus School, 309 Palmer Hill Road, Riverside.
