Join Greenwich Grown on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 12 to 1 p.m., at the Greenwich Botanical Center for a light pollinator potluck lunch and lecture by Dr. Jeffrey S. Ward, Chief Scientist, Department of Forestry & Horticulture, The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, on the importance of invasive plant management and methods.
Invasive removal is necessary in order to restore native habitats and Ward provides fundamentals of invasive control while striving to restore native pollinating plants to the local landscape through efforts of propagation, education and conservation. This free event is presented by Greenwich Garden Club Pollinator Projects in collaboration with Audubon Greenwich, Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, Greenwich Botanical Center, Greenwich Conservation Commission, Greenwich Land Trust, Greenwich Tree Conservancy and Sam Bridge Nurseries.
If you plan to stay after lunch for one of the workshops with these professionals, just wear long pants, proper footwear, sun glasses, hat and bring a water bottle, gardening gloves, pruning clippers if you have them – organizers will provide tools if you need them, and refreshments.

Greenwich Grown was founded by a Garden Club of America (GCA) Partners 4 Plants (P4P) initiative with local land managers, botanists and other horticultural professionals from all eight of these participating entities to monitor and conserve rare plants, restore habitats and remove invasive plants. Audubon Greenwich, Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, Greenwich Botanical Center, Greenwich Conservation Commission, Greenwich Garden Club Pollinator Projects, Greenwich Land Trust, Greenwich Tree Conservancy and Sam Bridge Nurseries will work together over the next three years to advance these conservation goals and find sustainable methods to continue these efforts. Greenwich Grown strives to educate and engage our community on management of invasive species and preservation of native pollinators, including collection and propagation from native plant seeds.
