Penny Lynne Fertig Toombs of Basking Ridge passed away Sept. 7, 2018 at Morristown Medical Center following a long and arduous struggle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by her closest loved ones, husband Greg and children Caitlyn and Alex.

Penny was a long-time and highly regarded Realtor with Coldwell Banker in Basking Ridge, many of those years in partnership with her husband. As her beloved children grew to independence, her new career as a Real Estate Agent was a natural fit for Penny with her eye for design, mind for value and heart for people. Among many other honors, Penny was recognized as a Lifetime Member of New Jersey Realtor’s Distinguished Sales Club. Prior to focusing on raising her family, Penny was Vice President of Production for Cricket Hosiery and Vice President of Production & Marketing with Bonnie Doon. Always deeply committed to her community, Penny organized a successful fundraising campaign for playground equipment at Cedar Hill School, and won a commendation from the New Jersey Governor’s Council On Alcoholism and Drug Abuse as 1999 Volunteer Of The Year for her work with Bernards Township’s Municipal Alliance. Raised in Greenwich, CT, Penny graduated from Greenwich High and Russell Sage College and went on to earn her MBA from Columbia Business School. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Penny’s greatest joy and happiness was seeing the growth and successes of Caitlyn and Alex.

Penny is survived by husband Greg, daughter Caitlyn Friscia (Patrick), son Alex and his partner Amanda Garza, sister Mary Lou Vallone (Tony), brother Richard/”Skip” (Tara), loyal companion M’Ghie, and six nieces and nephews.

Her Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m., at the Presbyterian Church of Liberty Corner, N.J. In lieu of flowers, please make any memorial contributions to the Somerset Hills YMCA’s LiveSTRONG program for cancer survivors (somersetcountyymca.org/giving) or to the Breast Cancer Reseach Foundation (bcrf.org).
