On Oct. 19, the Greenwich High School PTA will be hosting the fundraiser cocktail party “Paint the Museum Red.” Last year they held their fundraiser at Richards on Greenwich Avenue. This year they wanted to showcase another iconic Greenwich landmark, the Bruce Museum.
Many people in Greenwich may not know that the Bruce Museum is a community based, world-class institution highlighting art, science and natural history in more than a dozen changing exhibitions annually. The permanent galleries feature the natural sciences that encompass regional to global perspectives. The Museum was originally built as a private home in 1853. Robert Moffat Bruce (1822-1909), a wealthy textile merchant and member of the New York Cotton Exchange, bought the house and property in 1858 and deeded them to the Town on Greenwich in 1908.
The event will take place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and will help raise funds for the school. The program will include cocktails, gin and vodka tasting, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and more. This year the bidding will be an online system.
The GHS PTA fundraising goals for this event are targeted to Curriculum Enrichment (field trips, in school programs, cutting-edge teaching and learning tools for the classroom, Parent Education and Advocacy (college process seminars, teen health behavior information, advocacy with school personnel for families) and Student, Staff and Family Services (outreach, teacher appreciation, student employment services, scholarship, volunteer support, college and career center help).
