The Greenwich Emergency Medical Service (GEMS), Inc. announced three new members to its Board of Directors: Timothy Schieffelin; Michael Urban, M.D., Ph.D.; and William Hood, all of whom are residents of Greenwich. The three new members were elected to the Board during the organization’s Annual Meeting, which was held in July.

Schieffelin is a Founding Partner of the Leeward Group. Previously, he was a Senior Wealth Director with BNY Mellon Wealth Management and has over 35 years of experience in the financial services industry. Urban is a practicing Anesthesiologist and Intensivist at the Hospital for Special Surgery, and a partner of East River Medical Anesthesiology. He also is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Cornell University Medical College. Hood is a Managing Director and the Founder of William Hood & Company, a differentiated industry-focused investment banking practice covering the Consumer, Food and Retail sectors with a specialization in Health and Wellness.

“GEMS is thrilled to welcome Tim, Michael and William to its Board,” said Jennifer Baldock, GEMS Board Chair. “Their time and talents, as well as their commitment to our life-saving work will positively influence the decisions the GEMS Board makes to provide the highest level of pre-hospital and emergency care to the Town of Greenwich.”

Schieffelin, Urban and Hood were elected to join the Board based on their business and medical backgrounds. Each Board member will serve an initial three-year term and sit on the Board’s various committees.

About Greenwich Emergency Medical Service, Inc. (GEMS)

GEMS provides the highest level of pre-hospital and emergency medical care to reduce the risk of death and disability due to trauma and sudden illness. GEMS operates 24/7 out of four stations with a fleet of seven state-of-the-art ambulances. From May 2017 through April 2018, GEMS responded to 6,109 calls and transported 4,199 patients, arriving, on average, within less than five minutes to all emergency calls.

GEMS, along with the Town’s Police and Fire departments, provides emergency services to the Town of Greenwich. Unlike Police and Fire, GEMS is a not-for-profit organization, providing services pursuant to a contract with the Town. The organization currently raises the funds for all of its capital expenditures, including its ambulances and state of the art equipment inside, through contributions from the Greenwich community.
