Join Skip the Straw Greenwich for a kick-off event celebrating the launch of the Old Greenwich campaign to reduce plastic waste and protect our waterways and shorelines on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 2:30 p.m., at the Old Greenwich School plaza. Greenwich Girl Scouts and town residents will gather with community leaders for a Skip the Straw welcome and proclamation by First Selectman Peter Tesei. Partner organizations and merchants will be on site with information and goods for purchase. The rain location is Eastern Greenwich Civic Center.

The campaign seeks to engage local businesses and residents to stop marine trash at its source. In Old Greenwich starting in October, restaurants will make a voluntary commitment to serve straws by request only or switch to an alternative to plastic straws, merchants will offer for sale paper or reusable straws, and residents are encouraged to order drinks without a straw or carry a reusable.

The Friends of Greenwich Point and the Bruce Museum Seaside Center, as well as Perrot Memorial Library, are hosting screenings of the award-winning documentary STRAWS, in support of the Skip the Straw Greenwich campaign. STRAWS will be shown at Perrot on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. and at Innis Arden Cottage at Greenwich Point on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., followed by a presentation by Roger Bowgen, Greenwich Shellfish Commissioner.

All events are free. For more information, contact skipthestrawgreenwich@gmail.com or visit greenwichct.gov/286/Conservation
