Gary G. Gilbride, 67, of Old Greenwich, CT, passed away peacefully at Greenwich Hospital with his beloved wife, Angela, at his side on Sept. 22, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with esophageal cancer.

Gary was born in Santa Monica, Calif., on April 2, 1951 to the late John T. Gilbride and Rosemary Shelare Gilbride. He moved to Greenwich as a child with his family in 1958. Gary graduated from the Whitby School in Greenwich, the Canterbury School in New Milford, and Boston College in 1974. While in college, Gary interned for a New York congressman in Washington, D.C., where he met Angela. They were married in Washington on May 24, 1975. Soon thereafter Gary and Angela moved to New York City, where Gary earned his MBA from Fordham University. He began his business career with Alexander & Alexander, Inc., in New York City and Paris, and continued throughout his working life in the marine insurance industry. Gary was an expert in a wide range of blue, brown, and green water commercial shipping and small craft insurance products. Over the years he held positions with Alexander & Alexander, AON, Arch Insurance Company, the American P&I Club, and at the time of his passing, he was a Senior Marine Underwriter for AIG. Gary was a long-time member of the American Bureau of Shipping and the New York Athletic Club.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Angela, his brothers, Frank (Carol) of Greenwich, and John (Victoria) of Kennett Square, Pa.; his mother-in- law, Katie Alafoginis, of Chevy Chase, Md., his brother-in-law, Peter Alafoginis (Mary), of Wellsboro, Pa., and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews as well as godchildren in Connecticut, New York, California, Colorado, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Washington.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 3 to 7 p.m., at the Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home, 31 Arch St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Oct. 1 at 11 a.m., at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 469 North St. In lieu of flowers, the Cancer Research Institute, 29 Broadway, New York, NY 10006 and the We Stand With Christ Rebuilding Campaign of St. Michael the Archangel Church, at the above address, will gratefully receive donations in Gary’s memory.
