Second Congregational to Hold ‘Homecoming Weekend’

On Saturday, Sept. 8 p.m. at 5 p.m., Second Congregational Church kicks off its Annual Homecoming Weekend, a series of outdoor public events and worship services held on the church campus at 139 East Putnam Ave.

“Each September, we love welcoming old and new friends to our church campus,” says Senior Minister Maxwell Grant. “Right in the heart of Greenwich, it is a place apart that offers rest and strength. As we all get set for a new season, whether it’s the beginning of a new school year, or that long stretch before Christmas with no more vacation days in sight, it is wonderful to gather ourselves and remember what a gift it is to be alive, especially in this beautiful place. God is so good to us.”

The weekend kicks off with a family oriented Evensong Service starting at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, followed by a picnic and a screening of the movie I Can Only Imagine. This free family-friendly event includes popcorn and drinks for everyone as well as a free movie basket raffle. Feel free to bring a blanket and a friend. This event will take place rain or shine as it will be under a tent on the Mead Lawn. Please email Shawn@2cc.org with any questions.

Sunday, Sept. 9 at 10:30 a.m., the day starts with a positive, informal worship featuring a Bluegrass Band followed by a Potluck-style BBQ featuring burgers, hot dogs, etc. All food is provided by church families (last names beginning with A-L are asked to bring vegetable dishes while M-Z will be bringing salads). There will be a bouncy castle, face painting and ice cream for kids.
