Over 10,000 Customers Without Power in Greenwich

According to Eversource’s outage map, 326 customers are without power in Greenwich. Previously, Eversource indicated that the majority of customers would have power restored by 10 p.m., Tuesday, but they later pushed the estimate back to midnight.

According to Eversource spokesman, Mitch Gross, the major power outage that hit Greenwich on Tuesday evening was caused by problems with a couple of underground cables.

“We are currently rerouting power to the affected customers, as well as checking out equipment at substations in town,” Gross said.

Barring any complications, Eversource plans to have power fully restored by 10 p.m., Tuesday. As of 8:45 p.m., there are currently 6,454 outages around town, down from 10,679 earlier in the evening.

According to Eversource, as of 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, 10,679 customers in Greenwich are without power, which represents roughly 38 percent of all customers in town.

According to Eversource spokesman, Mitch Gross, outage reports first started to come in around 5 p.m. There is currently no estimated restoration time, or an explanation as to what caused such a major outage. “We are working on it,” Gross said.

The region has suffered oppressive heat in recent days, as it’s currently 83 degrees (feels like 89) in Greenwich. Temperatures are expected to hover in the low 70’s overnight, and will climb up to a high of 86 tomorrow.

Residents can use the Public Safety Complex located at 13 Bruce Pl., to cool down or to charge devices. The Greenwich Library is also open until 9 p.m., for those looking to beat the heat.
